However, this amazing car was painted by General Motors in this Chrysler color back in 1970 and is considered correct for the car. How can this be? We got the whole story from restorer Allan Steinbock at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago.

This is the very first 1969 Plymouth Road Runner A12 446 Pack ever built! This was the pilot car used by Chrysler to promote the A 12 Roadrunner package, and it has been called the "Wayward Beeper". Its significant history is bolstered by an appearance in Super Stock Magazine, where it was tested and tuned by legendary speed-shifter Ronnie Sox. This car features the 390 hp. 440 V8 with 3 2 barrel carburetors, and A833 four-speed transmission, 4.10:1 rear gears, and a stripped-down interior. This very car has gone 12.91 seconds in the quarter mile, leading Chrysler to call it the fastest A12 ever built!

Everything about this 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird helps it to stand out in a crowd... the brilliant TorRed color, the high rear wing, the aerodynamic nose, and of course, the growling 426 Hemi V8 under the hood. However, this very car was chosen by some not-so-brilliant outlaws to be the getaway car from a Harrah's Casino heist in Reno, Nevada. Although they might have thought the speed of a NASCAR super speedway flyer like this would have helped them escape, they were quickly apprehended and the car taken from them. Today, the car lives a much more lawful existence in the Brothers Collection, where it resides in restored glory safe from wrongdoers. We certainly don't condone unlawful acts, but we bet the getaway ride was fun!

MC: 1970 Plymouth Superbird 426

The 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda AAR is one of those cars that pushed Muscle Car styling over the top. The base model Barracuda is regarded as one of the best lookers on the road, and the high-energy AAR turns things up to eleven. The strobe stripe, low front fender splitters, organasol hood, rear wing, black tail, side exhaust, and staggered tire sizes make you dizzy with excitement. And if the look doesn't get you, the high-revving 340 6-Barrel V8 will. They are not common, and this Alpine White and black vinyl top car is even more rare. From the Brothers Collection.

1971 Plymouth 'Cuda 440 4-Speed Convertible Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals 2022 MCACN. 1971 Plymouth 'Cudas are scarce, even more so are the seventeen 440 convertibles built that year, and this one is one of the hottest! This 1971 'Cuda convertible features a 440 six-pack V8 engine breathing through a shaker hood, and is coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission. The list of options is long on this car, including front and rear body-colored bumpers, front and rear spoilers, dual color-matched side racing mirrors, leather bucket seats, a Dana rear axle, and much more. We caught up with owner Bob Bartosiewicz after unveiling the freshly restored 1971 440 'Cuda convertible at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show where he shared some of the cool stories behind this amazing muscle car. Would you believe it was ordered new by an FBI agent? Who specified every option except power windows? This 1971 Hemi Road Runner is a very limited production car that still retains a full-power 426 Hemi. It features outstanding details like the functional air grabber hood feeding fresh air to the 425 hp., 426 cube Hemi V-8. Inside, you will find a bench seat, a four-speed handle and little else. The exterior styling is bold with the new-for-1971 styling and the distinctive reflective stripe. It is one of many Hemi powered cars in the Brothers Collection.

American Metal builders Ralph Baldwin, Dave Lemet, Bryan Kendall, and Jason Knapp spent over two years giving this 1968 Shelby GT350 a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, and it more than lives up to its classic reputation. It’s a top-of-the-line muscle car, sure, but the skill, research, and dedication that the team put into the car earned it the MCACN Concourse Gold award and that makes it a work of art. It’s a piece of iconic American history fully restored to its former glory.

AMC: 1968 Shelby GT350 Restoration

This 2011 Camaro SS is fully built and stroked to 418 cubic inches. It's compression is 11.5:1, it has ported heads, a Texas Speed and Performance custom cam, it runs on full pump E85 and produces around 600 hp at the rear wheels. This probably isn't the fastest car around a racetrack but it's a ballistic street cruiser that strikes a fine balance between performance and comfort.

Many times, when influential muscle cars are discussed, people forget about the contibutions made by independent manufacturer American Motors. While they only offered these cars for a few years from the late 60s to the mid 70s, they have begun to be noticed by collectors and enthusiasts. Our feature car this week is what many consider to be the epitome of the era for AMC. Jump ahead almost five decades, and nearly the same car appears in your garage!  Well for owner Garry Heizer, this isn’t the Twilight Zone, it’s his daily reality!  

While Heizer did buy one brand new, This pristine ‘72 Pontiac Firebird Formula isn’t his old car, as his car was the one that got away, but he was lucky enough to find a twin to transport him back in time.

In this video, we take a walk-through of the show after hours where the general public was not allowed to get up close in personal with many of the cars and feature exhibits. This great display of Muscle Cars showcased cars either built or sold new in Canada. They include some Beaumont SDs, a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am convertible, plus other Mopar and GM offerings, even a Modge!

This '69 Charger Daytona in the Brothers Collection is one of 502 built, and 1 of 294 with the 440 engine. With its  aerodynamic nose piece and towering rear wing, this is definitely the most outlandish design from the muscle car era. But those features weren't added to shock and sell, they were shaped to be kings of the NASCAR Super Speedways. In this episode of Muscle Car Of The Week, we'll tell you all about it.

This 1970 Dodge Super Bee is not the car you want to drive if you don't like attention. This Top Banana Yellow example from the Brothers Collection is not only visibly noticeable thanks to the bright color and white interior and stripes, but the 440 6-Pack under the hood causes a stir on the street anywhere you go!

The 'Cuda was new for 1970,  and the Chrysler engineers made sure the platform would handle the super-sized 426 Hemi V8. This one is doused in T5 Tor-Red with a black vinyl top and black stripes, but if the stunning looks don't get you, the 425 HP dual-quad Hemi will. From the Brothers Collection.

Join us as we take a walk through the Barn Finds and Hidden Gems section of the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago. This display consists of many cars that were recently discovered in less than ideal storage situations, or other special acquisitions that are in pre-restored condition.  This year, the range of cars is impressive, from 2 1968 hurst Oldsmobiles, a Dodge Charger 500 , Plymouth Superbird, a 426 HEMI powered Dodge Challenger and a 1970 Hemicuda! One of the most amazing cars was a real deal 427 Yenko Nova! On the tour, we speak with Ryan Brutt who curates this collection each year, and we meet the original owner of a 1965 Ford Galaxie. The Barn Find and Hidden Gem display is one of the most popular at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals every year, and many of these cars will return to the show after a complete restoration to be unveiled on the main show floor.

The 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals featured an unbelievable display called "Wings Over America", and it consisted of dozens of "Wing Cars", also known as 1969 Dodge Charger Daytonas and 1970 Plymouth Superbirds.    These factory-built customs shared some of the same distinctive modifications made to their NASCAR racing counterparts. In fact, Dodge and Plymouth were required to build street-legal versions of their race cars in order for the race cars to be legal in NASCAR stock car racing. They called it "homologation", we call them awesome.

This 1967 GTO complete frame-off restoration started with a car that looked like it had been dragged out of a swamp.  It was originally Tyrol Blue with a black vinyl top, a black bucket seat interior, the Pontiac 400 for barrel V8 under the hood, and was coupled to a turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car was built with factory-installed air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering.  However, over time, this '67 GTO badly rusted and deteriorated and needed total restoration.

This amazing 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda was ordered new by a man named Zach Reynolds, the grandson of tobacco tycoon R.J. Reynolds. Zach grew up in an enviable position, with nearly unlimited financial resources, and could have easily carried himself above the common man. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth, as Zach was not just a gearhead with a bank account… he was more hands-on than most of us could ever dream to be.

MC: 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda

The American Motors Corporation was known for building reliable, lower-priced cars targeted towards families and those seeking basic transportation.     But when you combine a lightweight economy car with a potent V8, you have the recipe for an outstanding performer. This was the case with the 1969 Hurst SC/Rambler, a car built in conjunction with Hurst Performance to be a drag strip terror and look cool doing it! The SC/Rambler boasted a 315 HP 390 cube V8, a T10 4-speed, 3.54:1 gears, and other performance tricks like a complete lack of options, subframe connectors, rolled fender lips, staggered shocks, and Thrush mufflers. This little Super Car rocked and advertised 14.2 in the quarter @ 100+ mph, all for less than $3000.00. Quite a package.

This 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda AAR is wearing the ultra-bright Sassy Grass Green paint color. These cars were direct descendants of the Trans Am racing program, and while they are highly sought-after today, they were not hot sellers when new. This is one of several AARs in the Brothers Collection, and we show you the details in this week's episode!

The Camaro was all-new for 1970, and the Z28 is loaded with the also-new LT1 350. The LT1 350 had a higher horsepower rating than the big block, and the Z28's performance tuned suspension was one of the best you could get in '70. This Forrest Green Z is a low-mile car from the Brothers Collection.

This 1965 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport is sporting a super-rare 396 engine, known as RPO code L78. This one was advertised at 425 HP, and it’s backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. How many 4-speed L78 convertibles are left? We don’t know… maybe 5? This is a great ride from The Brothers Collection, and we remind you to watch to the end… you won’t regret it!

This 1960 Ford Starliner High Performance was bought new by Mike Falco’s father, and the car is still in his family. However, the Starliner was parked back in 1970, for reasons still unclear to Mike. What is known, is that Mike and his buddy Dan Vasic will be performing a “preservation” of the car, so that Mike and his family can enjoy the car for the first time in over 50 years! It's a great Muscle Car Of The Week!

This week, we're taking a look at a very rare 1969 Oldsmobile 442 with the W-30 Outside Air Induction setup. It's also one of only a few built that were originally sold in Canada. From the Brothers Collection.

The Corvette changed for 1968, evolving into the 3rd generation for the American sports car. The sleek new styling looks like full speed standing still, a trait shared by most Corvettes. This week's Muscle Car Of The Week could be considered the top-gun of all '68 Corvettes, as it carries a 500+ HP 427 under the hood, an optioned named the "L88". L88 cars featured not only a distinctive hood, but a whole list of performance enhancements... the F41 performance suspension, J56 heavy duty brakes, a Muncie M22 4-speed transmission, and of course, the 12.5:1 compression 427 V8. The LeMans Blue roadster in the Brothers Collection is one of only 80 built in '68, and it might look like a nice Sunday cruiser, but it was a thinly disguised race car sold to the public!

Once Don Yenko applied is magic to the the economy-minded Chevrolet Nova, it's personality was dramatically changed… for the better! The 1970 Yenko "Deuce" was a gear way for Yenko to offer an entry-level version of his high-performance Chevrolets and to avoid rising insurance premiums on popular Muscle Cars like Camaros and Chevelles. This well-known Deuce is a proud member of The Brothers Collection, and it is the star of our special 150th episode!

Enjoy the awesome Mopar's in attendance at the 36th annual (correct date - sorry!) 2022 High Energy Mopar Invitational Car Show in Phoenix, Arizona! Dana and Tom stopped by and are very glad we did! All kinds of Chryslers, Dodges, Plymouths, DeSotos, AMCs, and Jeeps were in attendance - hotrods, muscle cars, classics, new rides, and modified! Lots of classes and the judges were kept busy. The weather was nice and cool, and fun was had by all!

V8TV: '68 Camaro LS3 Restomod - Interior Upgrades and Test Drive

This clean medium blue 1966 Dodge Charger 383 arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop in need of some valve train repair and general maintenance, so the team installed a COMP Cams roller cam, lifters, pushrods, and roller rocker arms to replace the broken original rocker arms. A Demon carburetor was installed for more throttle snap and better fuel atomization, and the crew refreshed the drum brakes on all four wheels. These cars are at the pinnacle of Muscle Cars for all the right reasons… high power, low production totals, with 857 ‘69 BOSS 429s built and only 12 ‘70 Hemi Challenger Convertibles, but they are also valued because they are just really cool cars.    And while they really don’t compare from a function or market standpoint, we thought it would be fun to share two of the most drooled-over cars from The Brothers Collection in one episode.

Dodge called the new for 1968 Charger design “The Clean Machine”, and they weren’t kidding.   This was perhaps one of the smoothest designs from any American car maker, with bold shapes, crisp lines, and a timeless aggressive look that still wow’s ‘em today. Speedy looking aircraft inspired contours in the hood and doors and a buttressed rear window design stood out.  “A Mach 2 jet on wheels” as Dodge called it.  "Superbad" is what we call it.

Back before 1970, GM had a mandate that limited the engine cubic inch displacements in midsize "A" body cars like the Chevelle, GTO, and Cutlass 442 to 400 cubic inches. However, George Hurst and Doc Watson were able to create a special version of the Olds 442 that broke the mold, and allowed for an Olds 455 to be installed and sold through Oldsmobile dealers. Called the Hurst / Olds, these cars came to be in 1968, and by 1969, they were widely known for their outlandish styling, fully-loaded option list, and excellent performance. This example from the Brothers Collection is an unrestored survivor, a original car that was driven often... the way Hurst would have wanted!

This time, we we bring you up to speed on an awesome Ford Mustang BOSS 429 and the interesting story about how Ford used this car to homologate the BOSS '9 engine for use in NASCAR. It's a stunning car from The Brothers Collection.

We take a look at how Shelby put a spin on the redesigned 1967 Mustang.  The 1967 GT350 was more street friendly than the earlier versions, and still looks great today. From the Brothers Collection.

This 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 convertible is one of less than 110 known W30 442 drop-tops built, and even though power levels began to slide in 1971, this one still stands tall. Wearing a unique shade of Bittersweet paint with a black top and interior, this W30 boasts a 455 V8, a TH 400 automatic trans, a bench seat, and column shift. Another cool car from the Brothers Collection.

MC: 1971 Olds 442 W30 Convertible

Rare because they only made 14 Hemi 'Cuda drop-tops in '70, cool because of the 425 HP 426 cube Hemi V8 under the hood, and even more unique because this is the first one to roll off the assembly line. Dressed in Rallye Red with a red interior and black top, this car even sports a red Shaker hood scoop for more attention-getting fun. Mash the gas and the dual Carter four-barrels open up to provide fuel - lots of fuel - to the hungry Hemi below. The Brothers Collection is home to some awesome cars, but this one is over the top, even with the top down!

MC: 1970 Plymouth 426 Hemi 'Cuda #1

Word on the street is that there are only a couple W-30 4-speed convertibles ever built with the W27 out of the 96 drop-tops made. The story of this car is just as unique, as the history is known back to the day the original order was placed for the car at Hansel Olds in Fullerton, California by Robert "Rug" Kazley. The Brothers Collection is home to some stellar Oldsmobiles, and this one is among the best!

Here's one for the Buick fans... a 1970 Buick GSX 455 Stage 1 4-Speed in Saturn Yellow! Buick made 678 of these luxo-rockets in 1970, and they were certainly out of character for the Buick brand. Producing 360 horsepower and 510 ft. lbs. of torque, these capable street brawlers were running with the fastest Muscle Cars from any manufacturer. In fact, Motor Trend Magazine clocked a 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 car tripping the lights in 13.35 seconds @ 105.5 mph in '70, fast enough to be called their quickest test of 1970. The Brothers Collection never disappoints, and it certainly appeals to all Muscle Car brands.

Which would you pick, the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS396 with the 375 HP L89 aluminum head big-block and a 4-speed Muncie transmission, or the 335 HP 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428 Super Cobra Jet 4-speed?   Tough choices for sure, especially with these two fine examples from The Brothers Collection!

The Brothers Collection is home to some of the most collectible Corvettes in the world, and this week's Muscle Car Of The Week is a great example. It's a 1967 L88 427 Corvette Convertible, one of just 20 L88s made in 1967. It seems the number of convertibles versus hardtop '67 L88s is the subject of debate, but it's safe to say that this is one of the rarest Corvettes ever built.
The 435 HP L88 427 is the stuff of legends, and the L88 Corvette is devoid of nearly all creature comforts, but the distinctive styling and "L88" hood make it look as fast as it is. Watch the video to learn all the details of this amazing car.

The ‘65 and ‘66 Shelby Mustangs were very successful cars, but Shelby upped the stakes for ‘67 by introducing a big-block version of the GT cars with the GT500. However, this one takes it up another notch with a 427 "side-oiler" V8.   1967 Shelby GT500s were not offered from the factory with a side-oiler 427, but rather with 428s under the hood. We stretched the definition of muscle car just a bit and bring you a 1974 De Tomaso Pantera GTS. The muscle car connection is this car's 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8 that looks over the driver's shoulder as you row through the ZF gear box. Power comes from Ford, wrapped in Italian styling. We know it is not a muscle car but we think it is very cool and worth sharing. From The Brothers Collection.

MC: 1974 De Tomaso Pantera GTS

Dodge Muscle Cars came in a wide variety of crazy colors back in the day... come to think of it, they do now, too! This 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A is a great example of an awesome car in an over-the-top color. The Challenger T/A was the Trans Am race car for the street. It featured a beefed-up 340 V8 with a stronger block, special cam, free-breathing heads, and the super cool 6-Pack triple carb setup. The car had racy styling cues from bumper to bumper, and although they claimed 290 HP, these were potent performers embarrassing many cars with much more under the hood. However, the most notable feature on this example from the Brothers Collection is the paint code FM3, Panther Pink.

The Mercury Cougar was all new for 1969, and this Competition Orange Eliminator was one of the top cats. This example from the Brothers Collection is powered by the torquey 390-cube V8, and delivers plenty of tire-roasting power.

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the 80 built in '68 featuring the legendary RPO L88 427 V8. This is as close to a full-race Corvette as you could buy in '68, with heavy-duty suspension & brakes, and a lack of creature comforts like a radio or heater. From the Brothers Collection.

1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 CJ 428 Convertible - We're taking a spin in a very cool 1969 Mercury Cougar, one loaded with the XR7 option and the top-cat 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air V8! Add to that the convertible top, and you have about the baddest Cougar you could buy in '69. From the Brothers Collection.

We dive into drag racing history once again with a 1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty, featuring the race-bred 421 V8 and the aluminum front body panels. This car was successfully campaigned by the Packer Pontiac team driven by Howard Maseles. In it's day, this car ran the quarter in 11.73 at 118 MPH, good enough for a national NHRA Super Stock record. Today, it is one of the many historical Muscle Cars in the Brothers Collection.

There are many outstanding "Firsts" and "Lasts" in the Brothers Collection, but this car is a "First" twice, and a "Last" Once! This is the very first 1971 Dodge Charger Hemi, which is also the first year for the new body style, and the last year for the 426 Hemi engine! Being the pilot car, this one was not supposed to be sold to the public, as there are certain elements of the car that are not production ready.    However, it made it out of the factory alive, and was even sold new at Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago. It's a very cool story, and an even cooler car.

This is one of the more unusual cars in the Brothers Collection, a Lime Gold 1967 Ford LTD XL featuring a factory installed 425 HP R-Code 427 and 4-speed manual transmission. There were only a handful of these cars ordered in this configuration, and we share the details in this video shot at the 2014 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago.

These cars did what they set out to do, and Mickey recalls going 10.19 at 132 in 1972. Chrysler backing dried up at that time, so Mickey stored and eventually sold the car, but got it back in the 1980s and ran it again until 2000 when it landed a spot in the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA, and also a Hot Wheels car tribute. 50 Hemi Darts were slated for production, but sources say there might have been 82 actually built. Today, Mickey’s Dart is a revered rock star of The Brothers Collection.

This week, we have a special episode of Muscle Car Of The Week featuring an exclusive interview with Stan Antlocer, former owner / driver of the 1963 Stan Long Pontiac Super Duty Tempest. This car was known in Super Stock A/FX racing as the "World's Fastest Tempest" and was a record holder. It is one of the 6 lightweight factory built cars made. Today, the car is completely restored, and we reunited Antlocer with the 421-powered monster after he last saw it back in 1964. It is one of the many vintage race cars in the Brothers Collection.

We recently upgraded this super-cool 1973 Pontiac Trans Am powered by a Butler built 455 with a Holley Sniper EFI electronic fuel injection system and a Gear Vendors Overdrive unit. The car now has new-car driving manners and a snappy throttle, and the highway RPM has been dropped for better economy and easier cruising, all without changing the classic look. This one has it all... a Butler Performance Pontiac 455, A/C, even a working 8-track stereo! Aerodynamics had become a major factor in high-speed NASCAR racing by 1969, and the Ford Torino Cobra was as slick as they came. The long nose and slippery SportsRoof fastback profile made it easy for the muscular 428 Cobra Jet V8 to power through the wind. While the NASCAR racers racked up wins, the street versions won their share of unsanctioned stop light drags on main street USA. Power came from the 428 Super Cobra Jet V8, rated at 335 HP.   Was that accurate? We don’t think so, as Ford actually admitted to “conservatively” rating this one in a 1969 Cobra magazine ad.

The legendary cast of characters in the story includes Bunkie Knudsen, Smokey Yunick, Bill Stroppe, Holman & Moody, and many others, and Unser tells the fascinating story as if it happened yesterday. The car is a purpose-built stock car built by Bill Stroppe and Holman & Moody and is powered by a Smokey Yunick built Boss 429. Unser had not seen the car since ‘69, but he was surprised to learn that the car remains in as-raced condition today. He went on to share many stories of racing in general, and how to be a winner not only on the track but also in life, and a great recollection of a huge party after a winning snowmobile racing season! The display was a huge hit at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, and the car is a very special piece of racing history in the Brothers Collection

V8TV: Hot Wheels - Custom Corvette 1964 C2 Restomod

We recently got our 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS back from the dustless media blaster to find what type of previous repairs, rust, and corrosion were hiding under the paint.

Here at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, we will still manually strip the big flat panels like hoods, roof skins, decklids, door skins and quarter panels, just to minimize any risk of warpage and to have better control over the process. However, the dustless blaster will quickly strip the paint from the fire wall, floors, underside of the car, the trunk floor, door, jams, and all of the little pieces and parts, including the chassis and frame. It is a great way to go!

V8TV: Stripping a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS with Dustless Media Blasting

Check out the skilled craftsmanship happening at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop! Our talented fabrication team is hard at work welding in a brand-new dashboard into a super-cool 1968 Oldsmobile 442. This 442 sits on a Roadster Shop chassis but retains its original appearance.

One of the challenges was to repair the rusty dashboard, but without the support of a reproduction panel made specifically for Oldsmobiles. The solution - adapt a Chevelle piece, mating it to the Olds dashboard to retain the Olds speaker grille and vents while eliminating the rust. The fresh new dashboard is a combination of Chevelle parts and custom-made pieces, replacing the rusty original. The result is a seamless panel that looks like we were never there.
